On the other hand you have to paint the interior if you want to have an functional door.

To minimize trouble with all the different paint ranges and paint range revises (GW) I will use generic colour descriptions like dark brown additionally I will put the name of the colour I use in parenthesis. The pictures will show exactly which colour I used.

So, let’s start!

Step 1

Don’t assemble anything except for the candle board. It’s much easier to paint all parts seperately.

I undercoated everything black using a spray can.

After that I basecoated the all parts with a slightly thinned down dark green brown (Charadon Granite).

Step 2: Wood

Heavily drybrush all wooden areas with a mid brown (GW Steel Legion Drab).

Step 3: Wood

Drybrush with a lighter brown grey (GW Zandri Dust).

Step 4: Wood

Finally drybrush carefully with ivory (GW Tyrant Skull).

Step 5: Wood

I wanted to colour single shelves differently and more realistic. Therefore I used a dark brown (Agrax Earthshade) and a leather (Gryphonne Sepia) wash.

If you want to have a stronger effect give the shelves a second wash after the first has dried.

Step 6: Base

Basecoat the Base with a slightly thinned dark brown (GW Dryad Bark).

Step 7: Base

Heavy drybrush with a medium grey brown (GW Khemri Brown).

Finally I carefully drybrushed the base with ivory (GW Tyrant Skull).

Repaint the stones with black. Followed by drybrushing them with a mid grey (GW Codex Grey) and carefully with pure white.

In a last step I wanted to define the different materials stone, wood and earth stronger therefore I blacklined them using a dark brown ink (GW Agrax Earthshade).

Blacklining means painting a line with thinned paint around the contour of something.

Step 8: Details

Paint the paper with ivory (GW Screaming Skull), the nails with a dark metal, the seal and the candle with a dark red (GW Mephiston Red).

Wash with a dark Brown (GW Agrax Earthshade)

Step 9: Details

Highlight the paper and the seal with thinned ivory (GW Screaming Skull) followed by thinned pure white.

Highlight the seal and the candle with thinned red (GW Evil Sunz Scarlet) followed by small dots here and there with a thinned orange.

Step 10: Nails

Paint all metal pieces with dark brown (GW Dryad Bark).

Highlight the pieces using a warm red brown (GW Skrag Brown).

Finally paint a small dot of silver on every nail.

Step 11: Weathering

In a last painting step I used dry pigments (Weatheringpowder from NOCH) which is available at our online store We highly recommend these pigments from Noch because of their quality and price.

Take a blank sheet of paper where you put some powder with a stiff-bristled brush.

You can easily mix the dry powders on the paper. All pigments are applied as a powder. There are other ways using pigments but normally I apply them dry.

If you like you can seal the pigments using a spray can with varnish but I don’t recommend this because it destroys part of the weathering effect and the pigments stick quite good on nearly every surface.

I started with the Moss powder on the sunk areas of the roof where most of the rain would run through.

Do the same around the Outhouse where the base begins and here and there on some shelves.
