The Book of Battles is an unusual supplement. It is not a SAGA\u00a0Universe, but a collection of scenarios and game variants that\u00a0can be applied to any Universe in which you decide to play. \nThe book\u2019s first chapter is devoted to skirmishes, and offers only one scenario, Battle of Heroes,\u00a0 BUT\u00a0it offers a multitude of possible combinations (more than five\u00a0thousand!), guaranteeing almost infinite re-playability.
\nSkirmishes offer balanced games, and require no specific terrain\u00a0pieces or particular rules not already included in Clash of Warlords.\u00a0Thus, any group of players with access to the terrain pieces used in\u00a0Clash of Warlords can play multiple variations of Battle of Heroes.<\/p>\n
\nThe second chapter is dedicated to battles. Before\u00a0presenting the battle scenarios, this chapter offers a set of\u00a0special rules specific to these scenarios, notably covering\u00a0new terrain types, like buildings.\u00a0Battles offer balanced encounters, but require specific terrain pieces, or the introduction of particular rules which can give\u00a0an advantage to certain ways of assembling a warband. They\u00a0are also noticeably more complex than Clash of Warlords and\u00a0Battle of Heroes, but also offer very unusual situations for your\u00a0Warlord to test himself against.<\/p>\n
\nThe third chapter covers legends, narrative scenarios that\u00a0tell an interesting story rather than providing a perfectly\u00a0balanced struggle. It will suit players wishing to explore SAGA\u00a0in a different, less competitive, and more narrative way. They\u00a0sometimes place constraints on how warbands are\u00a0 assembled,\u00a0in order to save the story from the excesses of gamers! Thus,\u00a0it is best to agree with your opponent in advance that you will\u00a0play a legend during your session, so that each player can bring\u00a0an appropriate warband. The chapter begins with a collection of special rules that will be\u00a0used in these specific scenarios.<\/p>\n
\nThe fourth chapter deals with games of three or four players.\u00a0Its introduction describes the particular rules for this style of\u00a0play, before presenting several scenarios designed to play SAGA\u00a0with three or four players. Mass Battles are a unique chance to appreciate SAGA with every member of a gaming group, each one leading their own\u00a0warband. The balance depends as much on the warbands\u00a0involved as the relations between the players; some scenarios\u00a0will win renown for the most diplomatic players, and others the\u00a0most opportunistic!<\/p>\n
\nThe Book of Battles ends with a chapter for players who want\u00a0to link their games and weave them into an overarching saga.\u00a0Rather than detailing a traditional and constraining campaign\u00a0system, the Sagas chapter offers a simple experience system,\u00a0allowing your Warlord to increase his influence and develop\u00a0new talents.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
