Trebuchets were first fielded by both Christian and Muslim forces from the 12th century. Using a counterweight to swing its arm and throw projectiles at a target, it became the most commonly used\u2014and powerful\u2014siege weapon in use until the advent of gunpowder.<\/p>\n
