Once again, the annual SAGA Grand Melee is behind us. It has now taken place for the eighth time. We decided to choose a new venue and so we played in our home village of Mehrhoog in the meeting centre. I’m sure that we’ll definitely organise something in the Oerlinghausen open-air museum again.
A total of 44 players found their way to Mehrhoog and I think we organised the biggest SAGA singles tournament ever. As always, the atmosphere was very friendly. Due to the proximity to the Benelux countries, some players from Belgium, the Netherlands and France also found their way to us.
It was great to meet so many old friends and acquaintances, but also to make new ones. Thank you SAGA Community you are great.
This year, armies from SAGA Age of Vikings and Age of Invasions were eligible.
5 scenarios were played over 2 days, drawn at random from a scenario pool of 8 scenarios.
- Old Feud
- Capture
- To Break A Shieldwall
- To Settle A Grudge
- Sacred Ground
HERE is the tournamend package.
We also have an impression in moving pictures for you:
The 22 game tables each had either an ice, desert or forest and meadows theme and once it had been decided which game board to play on, it was time to set up the terrain. The respective terrain was prepared centrally on tables, from which the players then helped themselves.
Here you can see some impressions of the games:
Every year there is also a colouring competition at the Grand Melee. Each player can present their army and then there is a secret vote in which everyone chooses their favourite. The top three chosen armies will then be assessed by a jury, which will determine the final ranking.
Here you can see the field of participants. There really were a lot of beautiful armies represented.
As in previous years, Tristan Höver and his Sassanids deservedly took first place.
Second place went to Greg Licitri’s Franks.
Third place went to Tom Weiß with his Franks.
We have another special prize, the Berserker of the Year. The winner is the player who manages to eliminate as many opposing warlords as possible. If there is a tie, the winner is the person who has also lost their own warlord the most times.
This year, Matteo Spachtholz was the deserved winner with 5 eliminated warlords and 3 of his own deaths.
Now we come to the tournament winners:
- Tim Pasch (Scots)
- Maarten Vanwesemael (Wisigoths)
- Dirk Sundermeyer (Scots)
Here you can see the complete list of tournament results.
A huge thank you to all those who helped to make this year’s Grand Melee a complete success:
- Christian Sprenger, who always helps with everything. Thank you my friend.
- The great cafeteria team (Steffi, Veit, Rena, Raik, Marie, Emma).
- Dworsch and Stefan for organising the stand
- PWork Wargames, Victrix Miniatures for the tournament prizes.
Until next time,
Mirco
